Alabama sales tax rate changes, April 2018

Several sales and use tax rate changes are scheduled to take effect in Alabama on April 1, 2018.

City rate changes

In Dadeville, the general use tax rate will jump from 3% to 3.5%. The general sales tax rate is already 3.5%. There are no other changes.

In Valley Head:

The rate will increase from 3% to 4% for the following:

  • General rate
  • Admissions to places of admissions and entertainment
  • Retail selling price of food for human consumption sold through vending machines

The rate moves from 2% to 3% for the following:

  • Net difference paid for machines, machinery, and equipment used in planting, cultivating, and harvesting farm products
  • Machines, parts, and attachments for machines used in manufacturing tangible personal property
  • Net difference paid for all automotive vehicles, truck trailers, semitrailers, and house trailers

In Repton:

The rate will increase from 2% to 4% for the following:

  • General rate
  • Retail selling price of food for human consumption sold through vending machines

The rate moves from 2% to 3% for the following:

  • Admissions to places of amusement and entertainment
  • Net difference paid for machines, machinery, and equipment used in planting, cultivating and harvesting farm products
  • Machines and parts and attachments for machines used in manufacturing tangible personal property

In addition:

  • The rate for the net difference paid for all automotive vehicles, truck trailers, semitrailers and house trailers is going from 0.75% to 1.5%
  • The withdrawal fee for automotive vehicle dealers only is dropping from 20% to 10%.

Sales made outside the corporate limits of the city but within the city police jurisdiction are half of those listed above.

County rate changes

Rates for the following are moving from 3.5% to 4.5% in Wilcox County:

  • General rate
  • Admissions to places of amusement and entertainment
  • Retail selling price of food for human consumption sold through vending machines

There are no other changes.
